Healthy teeth- healthy body
Toothbrushes and other home-use dental products are unfortunately insufficient for thoroughly cleaning interdental spaces and the subgingival area from plaque, and thus cannot fully remove tartar. Therefore, regular professional oral hygiene is essential. At Masych Dental Clinic in Ivano-Frankivsk, professional oral hygiene is performed exclusively by trained specialists using the latest equipment. We educate our patients on proper home dental care, demonstrate how to clean interdental spaces correctly, provide individualized advice, and select the most suitable daily oral care products based on the current condition of teeth and gums.
Poor oral hygiene is a primary cause of periodontitis.
Plaque on the surface of teeth is a significant risk factor for dental diseases. The formation of tartar is always a sign of insufficient oral hygiene. Bacteria growing on tooth surfaces are the primary cause of caries and periodontitis. Tartar forms through the mineralization of a complex layer of microorganisms. Existing deposits of this “matrix” create ideal conditions for bacterial growth. Therefore, regular oral hygiene is essential for everyone.
Did you know that even after brushing your teeth thoroughly, soft plaque can begin to form in as little as two hours?
At first, dental plaque looks like soft, whitish deposits along the gum line. Over time, bacteria in the mouth cause it to harden and turn yellow.
To prevent the formation of dental plaque, it is essential to maintain proper oral hygiene by brushing your teeth in the morning and evening. If teeth are left unbrushed for more than 12 hours, some areas of plaque begin to harden, making oral hygiene more difficult—brushing then only reinforces the mineralized plaque. Additionally, bacteria convert sugars from our food into acids, which attack tooth enamel and can lead to cavities. Tartar also forms, which can have multiple negative consequences for overall oral health.
Plaque and tartar formation along the gum line can lead to inflammation. Initially, this affects only the gums, but it may progress to involve the entire periodontium, resulting in periodontitis. This can cause your gums to bleed and your teeth to become loose. . Bacteria in tartar may even affect overall health, potentially contributing to heart and digestive problems. Tartar also makes teeth look rough and dull and can cause bad breath.
Dentists at Masych Clinic recommend professional oral hygiene twice a year for most patients, and every three months for those with periodontitis.
Professional
oral
hygiene
at Masych Clinic
Professional oral hygiene at Masych Clinic in Ivano-Frankivsk is carried out in several stages:
- Most importantly, professional oral hygiene is performed under a dental microscope, as tartar and bacterial deposits can hide in areas that are difficult or sometimes impossible to see with the naked eye.
- First, the periodontist removes tartar and soft deposits using an ultrasonic scaler. They carefully clean tricky areas like molars, between the teeth, and any gum pockets that may have formed.
- The second stage is performed using the modern Swiss “Air Flow EMS” device and a glycine-based powder, which protects your teeth and gums. The device allows the dentist to thoroughly clean the same hard-to-reach areas, removing all remaining plaque. Teeth may become slightly whiter, by one or one and a half shades, but it cannot make teeth lighter than your natural color. This device is also ideal for maintaining hygiene with braces, around implants, or other prosthetic constructions.
- In the third stage, teeth are polished with brushes and professional pastes. This helps slow down the buildup of new plaque.
We take a comprehensive approach to addressing our patients’ needs, which is why we offer the option to purchase home dental care products directly at our clinic.
Regular professional dental cleaning by an expert will keep your teeth healthy and support your overall happiness – we promise.

The whiteness of your teeth can be affected by various factors, including genetics, age, cavities, smoking, and some medications. Food pigments can also change the color of your enamel. At Masych Clinic, we can safely whiten your teeth by one, two, or even three shades.
We offer the most advanced and safe systems for professional and at-home teeth whitening: Flash (Germany) and Beyond (USA).
Prior to professional whitening, a consultation is conducted, Prior to professional whitening, including an oral examination and mandatory professional cleaning to remove plaque and tartar from the tooth surfaces, as these can prevent the bleaching gel from properly penetrating the enamel.
Teeth whitening is a process of removing organic pigments from the hard tissues of the tooth using active compounds (carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide) without altering their structure. During the procedure, a specialized whitening gel is applied to the teeth, and light from the Beyond ULTRA lamp is directed onto the surface. This lamp combines high-intensity LED light with ultrasound, offering three intensity modes to accommodate patients with heightened tooth sensitivity. Ten high-intensity LEDs ensure excellent whitening results without harmful UV radiation or overheating the enamel!
When exposed to the lamp, the whitening gel releases atomic oxygen that penetrates the enamel and dentin, whitening your teeth effectively. On average, teeth become 2–3 shades lighter (results may vary depending on your enamel structure). The entire procedure usually takes about 2 to 2.5 hours.
Whitening is not recommended if you have:
- fillings in the visible area of your smile;
- gum or periodontal diseases;
- In cases of allergic reactions to hydrogen peroxide and/or carbamide peroxide;
- if you are pregnant or breastfeeding

results
The whitening effect lasts from one to two years. Its duration depends on the level of personal oral hygiene, diet, and habits like drinking too much coffee, smoking etc.
To maintain the whitening effect, it is recommended to follow a ten-day “white” diet and to use an at-home whitening system.
To maintain the long-term effect of a bright “Hollywood” smile, the clinical and at-home whitening procedures should be repeated every 6–8 months.
