Consequently, bacteria may remain around the fragment, potentially causing reinfection and pain over time.
Step formation or perforation. During primary treatment of a curved root canal, if the clinician fails to follow the canal path and instead deviates into the canal wall, a step is created. If the wall is completely breached, the complication is termed a perforation. These complications may become clinically evident sometime after canal obturation.
