Dental X‑ray - the foundation of dental diagnostics

To pinpoint the source of a dental problem, a detailed examination of the mouth is often needed. In most situations, an accurate diagnosis requires a dental X-ray. With X-ray imaging, the dentist can determine the depth of decay (how far the damage has progressed and whether the root canals are affected), detect inflammation in the root canals, and check the quality of previous root canal treatments. X-rays also help evaluate how well a dental implant has been placed and whether it has properly integrated with the bone.

Digital Periapical X-ray Features

Digital X-ray is an advanced diagnostic method that has long been a standard at Masych Clinic. Unlike traditional X-rays, digital imaging does not require film. Instead, the image is captured using a special sensor placed inside the patient’s mouth. These imaging systems are far more sensitive than conventional X-ray film, allowing them to operate with significantly lower radiation. A digital X-ray device provides high-quality two-dimensional images.

At Masych Clinic, our specialists care about both your health and your comfort. With the advanced equipment we use, you can stay comfortably seated — the EzRay Air portable X-ray device from Vatech makes diagnostics effortless. Its smart positioning system makes it easy to use, while the reduced focal spot delivers exceptionally sharp and detailed images.

Many dental issues can be identified through an X-ray, including hidden cavities, inflammation of the root canals, improper growth of wisdom teeth, and more. However, a periapical X-ray does not always provide a complete picture of the condition of the teeth and bone, as it produces only a two-dimensional image. When deeper, more precise assessment is required, our dentists will recommend a 3D scan (CT).

Benefits of a periapical dental X-ray

A periapical X-ray makes it possible to closely examine one or several specific teeth. This type of diagnostic imaging is highly mobile and very safe. Moreover, it takes only a few minutes to capture the image, and the dentist receives the results immediately. This type of X-ray is essential during root canal treatment, for planning procedures, and for evaluating treatment quality.

X-ray radiation is a form of ionizing radiation, the same type emitted by radioactive materials, which is why some patients worry about exposure during this examination. However, modern digital X-ray systems, like the ones used in our clinic, are extremely safe and have very low radiation levels, as they no longer require traditional X-ray film.

This not only reduces the radiation dose a patient receives during the examination, but also offers an advantage for the dentist, as digitally produced X-ray images can be viewed and analyzed directly on a computer. A single exposure from our modern X-ray device generates approximately 1 µSv (microsievert). For comparison: 1 µSv is equivalent to smoking one cigarette, while a one-hour flight at 11,000 meters exposes you to about 13 µSv.

When selecting an X-ray device for the clinic, patient safety and comfort are the primary considerations.

Dental X-rays are a key part of keeping your teeth and mouth healthy and we ensure our patients receive the highest standard of care! Your smile is in the careful and professional hands of the dentists at Masych Clinic.
