Frequently Asked Questions

How long do implants last?

Dental implants can last for many years with proper at-home care and professional hygiene maintenance. It is also essential to consider the overall health status of the patient. For instance, Straumann implants come with a long-term warranty from the manufacturer. However, like natural teeth, implants can be prone to damage or complications if not properly cared for or if there are underlying health conditions.

Typically, an implant integrates with the bone over a period of approximately six months following its placement. During this time, the implant is not loaded. In certain cases, if the bone is particularly dense and of high quality, the implant may be loaded immediately; however, this depends on the individual characteristics of the patient.

Implants are generally considered a better choice than removable dentures because they’re permanent, offer better functionality, improve hygiene, and look and feel more natural. The crown that’s placed on an implant is also a type of prosthesis, but it’s much more reliable and long-lasting. Removable dentures, on the other hand, can cause discomfort and hygiene problems because food can get trapped in them.
Typically, placing a single implant takes about one hour with local anesthesia. However, if bone grafting or sinus lifting is needed, the procedure will take longer. In some cases, it’s possible to place the implant right after extracting the tooth, as long as the conditions are right.
Implants can also be placed under sedation, which is a kind of medication-induced sleep that helps reduce stress and anxiety. This isn’t the same as general anesthesia, which has a stronger effect on the body. Sedation helps lower stress hormones, leading to better healing and a more comfortable experience during the procedure.
With modern methods like All-on-4 or All-on-6, it’s possible to place 4 to 6 implants in the upper or lower jaw when there are no teeth left. Usually, the maximum number of implants at once is 12 (6 in the upper and 6 in the lower jaw), which is enough to fully restore the jaw. The number of implants depends on the bone condition and the patient’s individual needs.

Dental implants: when should you consider getting one?

Dental implants involve placing an artificial root into the jaw, with a crown attached on top. The implant is designed to function and look as similar as possible to a natural tooth.

If you need quality dental implants in Ivano-Frankivsk, at Masych Clinic we provide a complete service, from careful diagnostics to long-term guarantees on the outcome.

  1. In the case of a single tooth loss.
  2. As an alternative to dental bridges.

If you prefer not to grind healthy teeth to place a bridge, it is important to note that, in the case of a missing tooth, it is necessary to reduce the adjacent teeth. By placing an implant, both chewing function and aesthetics are restored without compromising healthy teeth.

  1. In cases of complete edentulism (total tooth loss).

У таких випадках використовують методики All-on-4 або All-on-6, що дозволяють вставити незнімні зубні протези на верхню та нижню щелепи.

What types of dental implants do we place at our dental clinic?

We use trusted, reliable implant systems that are well-established in dental practices worldwide.

Here’s an overview of the most popular solutions we use.

  1. Straumann (Switzerland) – a global leader in the field of implantology:
  • Manufactured from the highest grade medical titanium or the latest Roxolid® alloy;
  • Have a unique SLActive® nanoparticle coating that helps speed up bone integration;
  • suitable for the most complex clinical situations.
  1. DIO (South Korea) – one of the most dynamic systems in digital implantology.
  • Complete digital integration: the ability for computer-assisted planning and 3D navigation;
  • optimal price-quality ratio;
  • suitable for single-stage or two-stage implantation;
  • frequently used in aesthetic zones.
  1. Neodent (Brazil) – officially part of the Straumann group, combining reliability and economic accessibility:
  • modern systems for rapid implant stabilization in the bone;
  • A great option for All-on-4 protocols and immediate loading implant procedures;
  • high efficiency at a more affordable price.

Dental implantation: what factors influence the price of a single implant?

The cost of dental implantation primarily depends on the quality of the implant itself, as well as the experience and skills of the surgeon.

If you are considering dental implantation, the cost of the procedure may vary depending on additional treatments, such as tooth extraction for implant placement or bone grafting.

Required preparation for dental implantation

Preparing for implants is not just a ‘one-time visit’—it’s a thorough process carried out by a team of specialists: a dentist, surgeon, periodontist, and prosthodontist. Quality preparation guarantees long-lasting and reliable results, which is why every step in our clinic follows the latest international standards.

  1. Comprehensive examination and planning:
  • the doctor assesses the overall condition of the oral cavity, as well as the presence of chronic diseases (such as diabetes, cardiovascular conditions), harmful habits, and the use of medications that may impact the implantation process;
  • Computed tomography (CT) is the ‘gold standard’ for dental implantation diagnostics. It allows the assessment of bone height, density, and width, as well as the position of the maxillary sinuses and the location of nerves. Implantation planning is not possible without CT.
  1. Professional hygiene and oral cavity sanitation.
  2. Pre-surgical procedures.

Not all patients have sufficient jawbone volume. In such cases, the doctor may recommend:

  • sinus lifting: lifting the floor of the sinus and adding bone material to prepare the area for an implant (commonly done for the upper jaw).
  • bone grafting: increasing the bone’s width or height using your own or synthetic bone material;
  • tooth extraction: if some teeth can’t be saved, they are removed beforehand or at the same time as the implant placement.
  1. Immediate implant placement.

Types of dental implants we offer.

At Masych Clinic, we use modern implantation techniques that allow for the restoration of a single lost tooth or a full set of teeth. The method is selected individually, taking into account the condition of the jawbone, the number of missing teeth, the clinical situation, and the patient’s preferences.

Main types of implantation procedures we perform:

  1. Single tooth implantation.

    This is the least invasive and most aesthetically pleasing method, helping to keep your healthy neighboring teeth intact.
  2. Multiple tooth implantation.

    This method is used when two or more consecutive teeth are lost. Two or more implants are placed at the site of the defect, with individual crowns placed on each implant, ensuring high-quality hygiene and aesthetics.
  3. Implantation using the All-on-4 method.

    This method involves full restoration of the dental arch on an edentulous jaw. Four implants are placed, with two posterior implants angled for better stability. A fixed prosthesis with 12–14 teeth is placed on them. This is an effective solution for total tooth loss and partial bone atrophy.
  4. Implantation using the All-on-6 method.

    An enhanced version of the previous method. Six implants are placed: four along the standard axis and two angled in the area of the sixth and seventh teeth. This approach provides greater strength and even distribution of masticatory forces.

What does the dental implantation process involve?

The process can be broadly divided into three stages:

  • STAGE 1

    Planning and diagnosis. We begin with a CT scan, followed by a diagnostic assessment of the bone and gum condition. The dentist creates an individualized treatment plan and explains all relevant details.
  • STAGE 2

    Preparation phase. Professional cleaning, tooth removal, bone grafting, or sinus lift surgery.
  • STAGE 3

    Surgical stage. The implant is placed in the jawbone. In most cases, the procedure takes approximately one hour and is performed under local anesteshia.
  • STAGE 4

    Gum shaping. If the implant is stable anchored in the bone, the healing abutment can be placed imemdiately. If the implant requires more time for osteointegration, the healing abutment is places after 4-6 months for a period of two weeks.
  • STAGE 5

    Prosthetics. After osteointegration (implant integration) an abutment is fixed to the impplant, onto which a crown is attached. The crown is individually fabricated using a digital workflow.

How long does the dental implant process take?

The duration of dental implant treatment depends on each patient’s individual clinical situation. In the simplest cases—when there is sufficient bone volume, no inflammatory processes, and no need for additional preparatory procedures—the surgical placement of the implant takes approximately one hour.

However, dental implantation is not limited to the moment the implant is placed. It is a comprehensive, multi-stage process that includes several important phases:

  • Surgical implant placement — from 1 hour: depends on the number of implants, the complexity of access, and the need for additional procedures.
  • Implant integration (osseointegration) — 4–6 months: during this period, the implant securely fuses with the jawbone.
  • Placement of the healing abutment (if not placed during implantation) — 15–20 minutes: this is an intermediate component that shapes the gum tissue to create a proper contour for the future tooth.
  • Fixation of the permanent crown — 20–40 minutes: once the crown is fabricated, it is attached to the abutment using screw fixation.

Is dental implant placement painful?

Dental implant placement is completely painless and is performed under local anesthesia.

Dental implant surgery under sedation

More extensive implant procedures—such as the placement of multiple implants, tooth extractions, or sinus lift surgery—are best performed under sedation. Sedation allows the patient to fully relax while enabling the dentist to focus on precision and treatment quality.

Sedation is administered under the supervision of an anesthesiologist and provides a deep, controlled sleep, during which you do not feel pain, while your body continues to function independently.
